Almere - Harbor, Green Cathedral Forest (aerial photo)
The Cathedral Forest in Almere is a special piece of nature and landscape art. The best-known site is The Green Cathedral, designed by artist Marinus Boezem. 178 poplars form the floor plan of a Gothic cathedral there. Nearby lies the Contra-Cathedral, in which the cathedral is formed precisely by open space and hedges. The artwork refers to the man-made character of Flevoland: like the polder, this 'cathedral' is also entirely designed by people.
